ED Uncovers 3 Kolkata Flats, Farmhouse Among Properties Linked to Former RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh in Raids

Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College: where a tragic incident involving the rape and murder of a doctor occurred last month, was taken into custody by the CBI on September 2. 

On Tuesday, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) disclosed that Ghosh’s wife held two immovable properties without obtaining approval from the West Bengal government. In an official statement, the agency provided details of the raids carried out by its Kolkata branch on September 6.

 These searches targeted seven locations, including Ghosh’s residence and properties linked to his relatives and associates, as part of the ongoing investigation into financial misconduct.

The investigation was launched by the agency following a First Information Report (FIR) filed by the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in Kolkata. The case was registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, targeting Sandip Ghosh and associated contractors.

Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, where a postgraduate trainee doctor was raped and murdered last month, was arrested by the CBI on September 2. On Tuesday, he was remanded to judicial custody until September 23. Ghosh is being investigated for suspected corruption and financial mismanagement at the institution, following an order from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court directing the CBI to conduct a probe into the case.
The ED reported that Dr. Sangeeta Ghosh, wife of Sandip Ghosh, had acquired two immovable properties without securing the necessary approvals from the state government authorities.
The ED claimed that Sangeeta Ghosh received retroactive approval to purchase the property from her husband, Sandip Ghosh, in 2021.
The agency stated that during this time, Dr. Sandip Ghosh held the position of Principal at RG Kar Medical College, while his wife served as an assistant professor at the same institution.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) announced that their search operations uncovered property-related documents, including a flat in Murshidabad, three flats in Kolkata, two residences in Kolkata purchased by Sandip Ghosh and his wife Sangeeta, as well as paperwork pertaining to a farmhouse owned by the couple.

“In addition to these findings, various incriminating documents and digital devices belonging to Dr. Sandip Ghosh were confiscated during the raids. The seized property documents are believed to have been acquired using proceeds from criminal activities,” the ED further stated.
